Custom Orthotics

An easy way to reduce pain and improve mobility, from the foot up.

The right foundation for your feet is key to proper alignment throughout your body. We make our custom orthopedic insoles with this simple, important principle in mind.

Our orthotics are custom-made shoe insoles designed to address pain and structural issues in the feet, ankles, knees, hips, and lower back. They are made from a variety of materials, so they can be soft and cushioned or rigid and structured, depending on the type of shoe and how you intend to use them.

Orthotics can provide relief from most common lower-extremity issues (such as plantar fasciitis or tendonitis), They can also prevent common athletic injuries and improve the wearer’s balance and natural stability.

Most orthotics will replace the standard insole that came with your shoe. However, they can also be made for shoes that don’t have removable insoles, such as sandals, slippers, and cleats.

In order to achieve the best fit possible, we make our custom orthotics using either a foam mold or a digital scan of your foot. This ensures that they are made both accurately and effectively, to conform to the unique shape of your foot and correct any misalignment.

___________

At Footstar, we're proud that our custom orthotic insoles are an easy and accessible way for our customers to improve the level of comfort at work, at home, or anywhere in between.

From state-of-the-art equipment, to the best materials, to over six decades of experience—Footstar has all the resources to create custom orthotics for the shoes that are essential to your lifestyle.

Common Conditions Alleviated

Custom orthotic inserts can make a difference for just about anyone, with the ability to alleviate common foot and leg problems, such as:

  • Heel pain and arch pain
  • Pain of the ankle, knee, hips, and other joints
  • Misalignment and tension throughout the body

By reducing pain caused by the body's misalignment, custom-made orthotics can help a person to live a more mobile and active lifestyle.

Custom orthotics can be especially beneficial for people with orthopedic conditions. Podiatrists may write prescriptions for custom orthotics because they can be specifically designed to help address any of the following issues:

For example, plantar fasciitis (inflammation of the tendon that runs across your arch) can be caused by walking on flat surfaces and/or with inadequate footwear. Podiatrists may recommend custom-made orthotics to provide more contoured support and help address this issue.

Custom-Made Orthotics by Footstar

Footstar orthotics can be made for many different shoe types, so whether you wear heels at the office, sneakers for your workout, or casual shoes around the house, our insoles can be an easy and effective way to improve the shoes that are essential to your lifestyle.

Our Process

Our craftsmanship is guided by the expertise of Footstar’s Matt Arciuolo Jr.—a certified pedorthist and third-generation owner of our family business.

First, we make impressions from heel to toe using digital imaging technology. Then, we then take your foot molds and use top-grade materials to build the best insoles for your needs (whether that’s sports, working long days, or any other activity or lifestyle).

With the majority of our products, you can remove your shoes' original insoles and insert your new custom orthotic. However, for footwear that doesn't have a removable insole, we also make 3/4 length shoe inserts.

Through these techniques, we can customize a range of functional orthotics for any foot shape, from flat feet to high arches, and all points in between.

Serving Local and Long-Distance Customers

If you live close by, visit our store in Milford, CT. We'll take a digital scan of your feet on our state-of-the-art equipment and begin crafting your custom insoles right away.

If you live in another part of the country, we’ll mail you a foam impression box. You’ll make foot molds and mail them to us with your specifications, then we’ll send back your custom orthotics, typically in 10-14 days.

We prefer digital or foam impressions to plaster casts (another common method) because creating plaster molds can be more time-consuming and less accurate. Digital imaging and foam impressions provide a better evaluation of your feet’s contours, better custom foot orthotics, and ultimately better results in terms of appropriate realignment of your body and the potential to relieve pain.

The Best Materials

We make our custom insoles with a variety of high-performance materials. Our team can make insoles for any style of shoe, by selecting the right balance of flexible, durable, tough, cushioned, shock-absorbent, and waterproof qualities.

As such, your custom orthotics are tailor-made to the activities you plan to use them for.

Our materials include:

EVA (ethylene vinyl acetate)  — Also called “foam rubber”, EVA is our most shock-absorbent material and essential to our sneakerand casual shoe orthotics. An EVA insole is strong and will maintain your foot’s proper position without ever collapsing under weight.

Carbon Fiber  — Carbon fiber is a flexible, strong material found in high-end car frames, golf clubs, tennis rackets, and jet planes. Carbon fiber orthotics are great for work boots, dress shoes and more, and they take up little space in your shoe.

Spanko — Spanko is a patented waterproof, sweat proof, and antimicrobial material that keeps your inserts clean and fresh while providing extra cushioning. Spanko insoles are great for cleats and other athletic shoes.

Cork— Cork is water-resistant, buoyant, flexible, and environmentally sustainable as a material. Cork insoles are great for a range of shoes, fromsandals to work boots and more.

Memory Foam — Memory foam is well known for its ability to take the shape of any object set upon it. Memory foam insoles will hug your feet and are great forcasual shoes and sneakers.

Polypropylene — “Polypro” is a highly durable, water-wicking, and flexible material that helps keep your feet at a comfortable temperature. Polypropylene orthotics are great for casual shoes, sneakers, and more.

Silicone — Silicone is highly flexible, shock-absorbent, and waterproof. It also grips well, making silicone insoles great for high heels and fully waterproof orthotics, among other styles of footwear.

Leather — Leather orthotics provide a great feel under your feet, especially when you’re wearing thin socks, making it an important material in dress shoe orthotics.

A diverse palette of materials allows us to make functional orthotics that meet your individual needs. We take great pride and pleasure in crafting each pair, knowing it is the best fit for the person whose name is on the box—you.
